Dinosaur on the loose at L.A. Museum of Natural History

Categories: Fun & activities, Places to go, Education

When John Hammond decided to clone dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, everyone knew it was going to end badly. But what if you could give your child the excitement of meeting a "real" live dinosaur, without worrying that you'll be devoured for dinner?

The dinosaur experts at the L.A. Museum of Natural History may have accomplished just that. Check out this walking, snorting, growling, menacing dinosaur in the hallway of the museum. It doesn't actually roar or even attempt to strike, but it sure looks like it could at any moment!

The interesting thing is about this video, though, is that the most of the people getting near the dinosaur are adults (and even then, near the end of the clip you see one dash across the dinosaur's path, like he just might get bit!). The kids are huddled behind their parents or around the corner, out of the dinosaur's reach. Which leaves me to wonder -- is this learning just a little too hands on? I have one kid that would find it totally fascinating, and one who would demand to leave the museum immediately and swear off dinosaurs forever.

Really, really cool, but I think kids might deserve fair warning that they could come face-to-face with a carnivore while they're exploring the museum. What do you think?
